On Monday September 20, 2010 police received an anonymous tip suggesting that hunters had been heard talking about images they captured on a camera that was set up along a woods road about three miles back of Scoudouc. The images were of a man wearing a ballcap and carrying a backpack while pushing a pedal bicycle. The description is similar to the one released by police regarding Mr. Blakney.
"The tip is vague but contained enough specific information that investigators want to speak directly with the tipster and if the information is factual, then directly to the hunters." stated Cst. Chantal Farrah of Codiac Regional RCMP. "We understand it’s common practice for hunters to install cameras in areas they plan to hunt in order to capture footage of animals, so this tip is being considered credible"
Police are asking this anonymous caller or the hunters to contact the Codiac Regional RCMP at 857-2400 and speak directly to investigators in order to provide a more precise location of this possible sighting and to provide any images that may have been captured.
Michael Andrew Blakney was last seen riding his bicycle in Moncton in early August. Family and friends say he rides a one speed bicycle everywhere and is known to ride regularly on trails to Sackville and Petitcodiac.
Blakney is of average build, 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 150lbs, and has reddish brown or auburn coloured hair. He also walks with a limp. Blakney uses prescription glasses and often wears a ball cap.
