In October of 2008, a hiker walking along Vernon Creek near Fulton School discovered human remains. It was obvious they had been there for some time. The RCMP went into a lengthy investigation to identify this person.

Working with the Coroners Service, a forensic Anthropologist, as well as medical records of missing persons at the time, identification was finally made. The remains are those of Garry Joseph Wells, who was 46 years old at the time of his death.

An active police investigation was started in May1997 when he was reported missing. Through investigation, it was learned that Wells was last seen sometime in 1996. The first step was to go back to the last time he was seen in the community.

The police conducted an intense investigation around this missing person case. In May of 1999 Garnet Vincent HENRY (currently 65 yrs) and Garnet Murray PONACE (currently 36 yrs) were convicted of manslaughter in the death of Garry Wells even though police did not have a body at the time.

It has taken the various agencies this long to be able to make an identification of his remains.
