Last week, the resources put in place as part of a border security pilot project resulted in the arrest by RCMP officers of three individuals in Noyan as they were attempting to smuggle four illegal immigrants into Canada. Charges were filed against two men and a woman, and the four illegal immigrants were placed into the custody of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

RCMP officers on duty in the area were able to act quickly after receiving information that two vehicles had apparently crossed the border illegally. The Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) took over the case and conducted an investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that Adriana Maria Agudelo, 29, John Edward Quintero Juendica, 27, and Ivan Dario Mendoza Echevarria, 24, all American citizens, facilitated the smuggling of immigrants into Canada in exchange for money.
They appeared in court in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on February 1st to face charges under the Criminal Code and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for conspiracy to smuggle persons into Canada.
