The Lucknow bench of the court comprising justices Devi Prasad Singh and Ashok Pal Singh passed the ban order based on a petition filed by Maryada Purshottam Bhagwan Ramleela Samiti, Bahraich.

As per the petition filed, the petitioner requested for cancellation of the Censor Board certification given to the film on November 1 and sought that controversial and objectionable dialogues be removed from the film. The said petition contended that the hurt religious sentiment of Hindus and its title 'Ramleela' was giving a wrong message to society.

Featuring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, the film has been doing well at the Box Office collecting Rs. 76.05 crores since its release.
