Unlike its title, Bollywood’s latetst blockbuster ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ isn’t actually about a brother’s bride. In the movie, Ali Zafar is shown as the elder brother of Imran Khan. After getting sick of his prolonged relationship, Ali Zafar asks his brother to hunt a perfect wife for him. That’s when Imran Khan goes to India and the story begins…
Mayank Shekhar writes in his review: “Katrina Kaif plays the said “rock chick”. It’s hard to tell if her character’s restlessly rebellious, or plainly retarded. There’s a thin line between the two, something that relaively similar, far more enjoyable, recent romantic comedies have managed to balance out incredibly well (Anand Rai’s Tanu Weds Manu; Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met).”
The first exchange of dialogues between the smoking hot Katrina Kaif and Imran khan start by Kat saying: “You think I’m a tart, bitch, slut?” Imran Khan tries to calm down the angry Kat by replying: “This is India, not London. Har desh ki ek soch hoti hai (Every nation has its own thought process).”
On the other hand, critic Sudhish Kamath writes: “The good news is that the film stays clear of drama with a subject like this (falling for your brother’s bride) and while that in itself is an encouraging sign from Yash Raj Films, the bad news is that Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has zero drama to deal with. Absolutely no surprises once the filmmaker brother plots to re-script his love story by manipulating the players — his brother, the families, the ex-girlfriend, etc.”
