This was the first time that Gracie had been alone in the big old house. She had been alone many times in the apartment where she and her mother had lived before and had learned to be very self-sufficient at a very young age. She would plow into the weekend with zeal. Since she received such a high grade at school, there was no homework, so she was free to do all that she had planned to do. She had gone out to the kitchen garden and snipped some Chives and Parsley. The walk in the woods yielded wonderful flowers in purples, whites, yellows and even some feather ferns. There was enough for a few vases to be placed around the house. The kitchen table, the living room, the front entrance and two smaller vases, one for her mothers night table and one for her own.
