Finland, South Sudan To Boost Bilateral Ties

The minister met the South Sudanese Foreign Minister Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial in Juba.

The discussions during the meeting focused mainly on bilateral ties and political situation in South Sudan and its neighbours.

“We are very happy that Finland can also give its small contribution to your development effort. I must say that I have been encouraged by what I have so far seen and heard about the situation of the country,” H.E Erkki Tuomioja told the press shortly after the meeting with the South Sudanese Minister, Nhial Deng Nhial.

Erkki said Finland will continue supporting NGOs that are providing support in South Sudan contributing to building of the infant nation. He said Finland spends at least six million Euros annually on South Sudan in areas of governance and water and sanitation programs.

Nhial who appreciated the visit of the Finland official said relations with Sudan is improving however; more foreign support is wanted adding better relations with Sudan will boost economic progress in the country.
