The Minister of Railway Dinesh Trivedi announced on Thursday that he has not sent in any resignation and does not even plan to do so until and unless the Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh requests him to.

Dinesh Trivedi had proposed a hike in the prices of Indian Railway while announcing the budget of railway 2012 in order to improve the infrastructure and technology of railway. He said that the increase in fares with additional funding from the government will help railway get better in the longer run with more railway tracks laid down, better facilities, and faster trains to cater to the increasing demand of public transport.

However, his speech was not taken well by the public as well as other senior government officials, especially his own party. Several leaders of his party openly criticized him and asked him to submit his resignation at the earliest with an announcement of reversal of the proposed step. Mr. Trivedi refrained from commenting on the situation whereas rumors took over the political scenario of India when news channels broke that the railway minister has resigned. However, later on Mr. Trivedi announced that he has no such intentions with the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee backing his statement and declaring that he has received no resignation.
