The Foreign Minister of Pakistan Hina Rabbani Khar spoke to the media and informed that Pakistan is working towards building a relationship with the United States such that both countries get mutual benefits from their relationship. She also said that US needs to own the people of Pakistan and make sure that nothing they do affects the sovereignty of our country.

The foreign minister made the comments regarding the discussions taking place in the Pakistani parliament over the issues of resuming NATO supplies and their effect on the White House.

She said, “I don’t think it’s a matter of grievance as much as it is about a matter of building a type of partnership which is lasting, which has the ownership of the people of Pakistan, and of course the parliament of Pakistan”. She added that the partnership should “achieve results which are considered to be in the joint interest of both Pakistan and the US and the NATO members which are operating in Afghanistan”.

Upon being questioned about the 26 November, 2012 incident that killed 27 Pakistani soldiers on Pakistani soil, she said “I would like you to put yourself in those shoes for a moment and think that if 27 body bags were to return to the United States of America, and your public was told that they lost their lives because Pakistani troops fired on them, what would be the level of hostility in the United States of America? I’m quite sure very high”.
