Drunken Muarmer Lalic kills a 23 year old man while driving in Hamilton

On Saturday, February 12th, 2011 at approximately 2:30 a.m., a red Mazda was northbound on Centennial Parkway approaching King St.E., Hamilton. The driver lost control of the vehicle on a curve and the vehicle entered the southbound lane. The vehicle struck the front of a snow plow that was plowing a southbound lane of Centennial Parkway. The Mazda continued into a snow bank and struck the west guardrail causing the vehicle to go airborne. The vehicle came to rest on its side in an adjacent field.

Emergency Services were notified and found four male victims from the Mazda with serious injuries. One male was later pronounced dead at the scene and the other three males were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The deceased is a 23 yr old male from St. Catharines. The next of kin have been notified and are in the process of notifying other family members. They request that the name of the deceased not to be released to the media.

The injured persons are a 21 year old male from St. Catharines who remains in hospital in critical condition.

A 25 year old male from St. Catharines has been treated and released form hospital.

The driver of the Mazda, Muarmer Lalic, 23 years of St. Catharines, remains in hospital in stable condition. He has been arrested and charged with one count of Driving with over 80 mgs of Alcohol Causing Death and 2 counts of Driving with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol Causing Bodily Harm.

The driver of the snow plow was not physically injured.

Aggravating factors for his collision are speed too fast for road conditions which were snow covered and slippery, and alcohol.
