At approximately 2 pm of March 23 Surrey RCMP received an emergency 911 call from the Crescent Beach area, three uniformed officers responded to the 3000 block of McBride Ave.

Upon arrival police officers were confronted by an adult male. As a result of a confrontation with the adult male, shots were fired. The male is now confirmed to be deceased

As this incident is in the initial stages, Surrey RCMP are on scene ensuring that all evidence is being secured.

"The Vancouver Police Department has agreed to take over the investigation, as per the RCMP’s policy requiring an independent police agency investigate officer involved shootings, resulting in a death or serious injury," says Sgt. Peter Thiessen, spokesperson for the RCMP’s Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service.

As the Vancouver Police Department is assuming the lead of this investigation, any further media inquiries should be directed to them.
