Cyclist killed in collision with pickup truck, Shediac Bridge, N.B

Members of the District 4 Shediac RCMP are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 11 in Shediac Bridge, N.B. on July 7, 2011, at approximately 2:15 p.m. between a pickup truck and a bicycle.

A 50-year-old man was cycling southbound on the paved shoulder when he was struck from behind by the truck. The man died from his injuries at the scene.

A short time later, an 80-year-old man was arrested at a residence in Scoudouc for leaving the scene of a collision. He was held in police custody overnight and released this morning on conditions. He will appear in court at a later date.

The victim is from British Columbia and had been cycling across Canada. His name has not yet been released pending notification of his family.

The investigation is ongoing.
