Police make second arrest in St. John’s, NL murder

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit has arrested and charged a second male in connection with a murder that occurred on Portugal Cove Road in St. John’s, NL on July 9, 2011.

Shortly after 10:30 pm on Saturday, July 9, RNC Patrol officers responded to a report of a disturbance between several adult males at 271 Portugal cove Road. A 20 year old male sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical practitioners. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has confirmed that this was not a random act of violence and on July 11, 2011, arrested 25 year old PHILIP WAYNE PYNN, charging him with second degree murder and attempted murder.

Last this afternoon, members of the RNC Criminal Investigation Division arrested a second man for his involvement in the weekend homicide. The 21 year old Paradise man was arrested without incident on Michener Avenue in Mt. Pearl and will appear in provincial court tomorrow, also facing charges of second degree murder and attempted murder. The RNC has also seized a vehicle that is believed to have been used in the commission of the offence. The investigation into this murder is continuing.
