Police Investigate Serious, Life-threatening Assault in Whitby

Investigators from Central West are seeking the public’s assistance following a serious life-threatening assault in Whitby, yesterday.

On Sunday July 17, 2011 at approximately 2:20 a.m. officers from Central West Division responded to the vicinity of a Mini Mart located at Brock Street and Chestnut Street after being alerted by a citizen who flagged down a passing cruiser on general patrol. Officers arrived to the parking lot of this location and discovered a 23-year-old male victim from Port Hope suffering from serious life-threatening injuries, as a result of an altercation involving a weapon.

Witnesses indicated three males had fled the scene on foot eastbound along Maple Street East. Air1 and K-9 were dispatched to the vicinity but did not locate the suspects. The victim was transported to a Toronto area trauma hospital and remains hospitalized with serious, life-threatening injuries.

A second victim, a 35-year-old male from Whitby was located at the scene suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The vehicle belonging to the second male victim was also damaged during the altercation.

The investigation is ongoing and police are appealing for information leading to the identities of the suspects involved.
