Winnipeg man charged with rental of property scam

In May 2011, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Commercial Crime Unit were alerted by another law enforcement agency of a possible fraud/ scam occurring over the internet involving the rental of property. A second property that had been listed for sale was later discovered.

On Tuesday July 20th, 2011 at 9:30 a.m., as a result of an ongoing investigation by members of the Commercial Crime Unit, along with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit and Uniform officers from both Division 11 and the East District Station, a warrant was executed at a residence within the 2400 block of Main Street.

A 23 year old male was arrested without incident and has been charged with the following offences:

– Fraud under $5,000
– Fraud over $5,000
– Forgery – Make False Document

He has been released to appear in court at a later date.
