A six-week investigation into thefts from rural residential properties in Brock Township has resulted in multiple arrests and the recovery of thousands of dollars of stolen equipment.

The investigation began in the spring after several homeowners in the Beaverton area reported thefts from their property. Other thefts were later reported as unknown persons were breaking into sheds, houses and garages, stealing landscaping equipment like chainsaws, lawn trimmers and lawnmowers. Several dirt bikes, ATVs, and a generator were also stolen.

Investigators with the DRPS North Division Criminal Investigations Bureau, Target Team, Tactical Support Unit, Fraud Unit and the Kawartha Lakes OPP assisted in this investigation, including the execution of two search warrants in Beaverton and two search warrants in Ajax. Many of the stolen items were sold in southern Durham Region, including Ajax.

As a result of this investigation, 10 persons have been arrested, over 70 charges have been laid and 18 theft incidents have been cleared to date. Numerous pieces of brand name power and landscaping equipment, valued at over $7000, have been recovered and returned to the lawful owners.

Further property is expected to be recovered. If you purchased any of the equipment not knowing it was stolen, please contact the DRPS so we can return the items to their rightful owners.

DRPS wants to remind property owners to ensure that they have their property locked and secured to prevent thefts from occurring as well as recording serial numbers. DRPS would also like to remind property owners to report any thefts or suspicious activity even if not making an insurance claim, as it will assist in the identifying of stolen property recovered by police.
