On Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at approximately 1 p.m., officers were assigned to assist with a demonstration in the area of University Avenue, south of Dundas Street West.
It is alleged that:
– the protesters marched south on University Avenue to the U.S Consulate at 360 University Avenue,
– officers stood outside the consulate to ensure the safety of the building and those inside, and to prevent the protesters from entering the building,
– during the demonstration, a small group people became violent and two men were arrested.
Bantshi Mbakama, 45, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1. Unlawful Assembly
2. Attempt Forcible Entry
3. two counts of Assault Peace Officer
Fataki Martin, 26, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1. Unlawful Assembly,
2. Assaulting
Both accused are scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, 10 a.m., room 101.
