Two Dead in a Midnight Toronto House Fire

An almost 80-years-old man and his adult son were found dead in after an overwhelming fire incident which took place at a house in Toronto’s north end early Thursday. The fire took place fire on Charrington Crescent, near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West, right after midnight.

The first response team of the fire fighters reached the location and discovered profound smoke and flames coming from inside the house. An almost 50 years-old man was found lying outside the house after a successful escape, who informed firefighters that there were still three people inside the house. Toronto Fire platoon chief, Tony Belevance, informed the media that “when the first crews showed up, the fire was well on its way at the rear of the house.” He added that “one of the occupants was at the front and he informed them that there was possibly three members of the family inside.”

Firefighters successfully rescued an almost 40-years-old woman from inside the building, but then they did not have another option but to delay the search operation because of the heavy flames. Flames were believed to be ignited from the through the main floor from the basement, which resulted in the back half of the basement to collapse completely. The fire fighters later found a dead body from the house, while the second victim is believed to be buried in the rubble of the collapsed basement. During the rescue mission, two firefighters faced considerable injuries while combating the fire and had to be taken to the hospital. The Ontario fire marshal has been called in to investigate.
