Maofid Saikely of Ottawa charged with drug offences

On August 3, 2010 the Ottawa Police Street Crime Unit executed a CDSA (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act) Search Warrant at a commercial business in the 300 block of Dalhousie Street. This business was operating as a pawn shop.

Nearly 500 pills of Oxycontin were seized, with an estimated street value of $2500, as well as $9000 in cash, three stolen credit cards and six Canadian war medals. It is an offence to take into pawn any war medals under the Pawn Brokers Act.

The owner, Maofid SAIKELY, 65 years-old, of Ottawa, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

10 counts of Breach of Probation
8 counts of Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking
5 counts of Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000
4 counts of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance
3 counts of Possession of Credit Card Data
1 count of Possession of Proceeds of Crime Over $5000

SAIKELY will appear in court today for a show cause hearing.

The Break & Enter Team will be investigating further to locate the owner of the war medals.
