On November 8th, 2010 at approximately 11:20 a.m., Uniform members attended to the area of Maryland Street and Portage Avenue regarding a stolen vehicle.

Officers subsequently located the suspect vehicle containing three occupants at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Valour Road. Police attempted to contain the vehicle however, the suspect driver failed to comply with officer’s direction. The driver proceeded to accelerate the vehicle at a high rate of speed in the direction of officers. In doing so, the stolen vehicle mounted another occupied vehicle that was stopped nearby.

As a result of the incident, a firearm discharge took place resulting in a non-life threatening injury to the driver of the stolen vehicle. The two other suspects were not injured.

All three suspects were taken into custody at the scene. The driver of the stolen vehicle was conveyed to hospital, treated and released, and returned back into police custody.

The 14 year old male driver has been charged with the following offences: Theft over $5000.00, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Comply with an Undertaking x 2, Fail to Comply with a Sentence x 2, Assault with a Weapon and Drive without a licence.

He has been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

The two other male occupants, 15 and 17 years of age are facing the following charge: Possess Property Obtained by Crime.

They have been released on a Promise to Appear.
