62-yaer-old Mississauga, Ont. father, Velauthan Vamadevan, who won the $20 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot in a mid-October draw, is calling it a miracle. According to the father of three, he’s been playing the Lotto 6/49 lottery for 20 years and “I never expected it.” He reiterated in excitement that “I never thought I would win.”

Vamadevan is a real estate agent who bought his ticket just hours before the Oct. 18 draw. He mentioned that “it was my son’s birthday and I decided to give it a shot.” He recalled to have put his ticket on a shelf and forgot about it after getting back home that day. However, he said to have heard that the lottery winner was from Mississauga a few days later and quickly checked the tickets in his wallet but found that they weren’t a match. Failing to even imagine he had won, he remembered to have thought about another Mississauga resident who won “what a lucky guy.”

However, Vamadevan alleged to have found the ticket he’d left on a shelf that day and got shocked to have realized that the numbers were a match last Tuesday. Vamadevan stated that “I was speechless.” He said to have called his wife, who didn’t believe him along with his children. According to Vamadevan, he hasn’t yet planned what he’ll do with the money, adding that “it is a miracle this has happened after 30 years of being in Canada. I’m still shocked.”
