Maybe it's what little remains of the optimist in me, but I keep thinking that surely people will take their governments to task over the massive losses of civil rights that we had (or thought that we had) just one short year ago. Unfortunately, such does not appear to be the case; things just keep getting more and more Orwellian.

There is a prime example of government overreach in the COVID-19 era from the Region of Peel which consists of the municipalities of Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga with a population just under 1.4 million people located to the west of the Greater Toronto Area or GTA in Canada:

Let's start by looking at this highly informative video from the Region of Peel outlining the instructions for parents as their children returned to school on February 16, 2021 after a very extended Christmas break:

Here is the poster that the Associate Medical Officer of Health for Peel Region, Dr. Monica Hau (who seems incapable of looking into the camera), refers to in the video:

In addition, here is the Ontario government's self-screening website for children attending school or child care.  At the end of the process, you get this pass (if you actually pass the screening process):

COVID-19 Pandemic Child Abuse

Now, let's get to the most important and disturbing part of this posting.  Here is the Peel Region's poster for how parents are to handle situations where their school-aged children are sent home from either school or child care because they did not pass COVID-19 screening:

COVID-19 Pandemic Child Abuse

Basically, if a child/student is screened and then sent home from either school or child care and is asymptomatic, according to the information provided by Peel Region, parents must force the child to:

1.) stay in a separate bedroom

2.) eat in a separate room away from others

3.) use a separate bathroom

4.) if they leave their separate bedroom (aka solitary confinement cell), they must wear a mask and stay 2 metres away from all other family members

Let's close with this from the Peel Region website:

COVID-19 Pandemic Child Abuse

That's a $5000 "stick" for those who choose to disobey their overlords.

So, basically, the Peel Region local government officials believe that parents should force children into solitary confinement if they happen to be sent home from school or childcare, even if they haven't yet been tested for COVID-19 using the flawed RT-PCR test.  How on earth do politicians and public health officials think that parents will be able to explain to a five-year-old that they have to stay in a room, by themselves with no interaction with other family members?  Do they not think that there could be long-term negative psychological issues as a result of these guidelines/government-mandated orders?   In many societies, particularly before the COVID-19 pandemic, this would be considered a clear-cut case of child abuse and would warrant government involvement to ensure the safety of the child and chastising of the parents.

Welcome to our "new normal" where parents are expected to be jail guards for their children and where the "stick" will cost you $5000 per day should you make the wrong choice.
