Jon Batiste & Stay Human: Boogie With Blues-Jazz Outfit
Valley Performing Arts Center – Great Hall (Northridge, CA)
Called out for his “outgoing humor and eccentric showmanship” by none other than The New York Times, jazz-blues pianist Jonathan Batiste and his band Stay Human are all about creating exciting and audience-engaging live performances. In fact, this group of Juilliard grads have been known to just hit the streets and start playing, leading to the release of MY NY, a 2011 disc recorded at a bunch of impromptu subway gigs. Now on his first major West Coast swing behind his new release Social Music, the charismatic Batiste — also famed for his moves on the wind-based melodica keyboard — comes from a long line of talented Louisiana musicians. He’s recorded and appeared with a bevy of stars, too, including Cassandra Wilson, Prince, Harry Connick Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Wynton Marsalis, Derek Trucks and others.
