Cuban Music with Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club
Valley Performing Arts Center – Great Hall (Northridge, CA)
The Cuban music legends of the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club bring their amazing sound to Cal State Northridge. The band, introduced to American audiences by bluesman Ry Cooder, plays the salsa, bolero and son music that ruled Havana from the 1930s through the 1950s. Singing with the band will be Omara Portuondo, whose guest appearance was one of the highlights of 1998’s acclaimed documentary Buena Vista Social Club. The band also features Guajiro Mirabal, Barbarito Torres and Eliades Ochoa, and will be joined by special guest Robert Fonseca.
