On Monday, the Bombay High court altered John's 15-day prison term and ordered that the actor be released on probation.

Though the judge, Justice R C Chavan, said it was a case of rash driving, he took a lenient view considering that the actor had not been involved in similar incidents in the past. John was released under the Probation of Offenders Act, after being ordered to pay a bond of Rs 10,000 within a week. But John will have to ensure that he is not arrested for any offence during the probation period.

The court refused to overturn judgments delivered by two lower courts that held the actor guilty as it is the responsibility of the driver to see to it that the vehicle is under his control at all times so as to avoid such sudden accidents

In 2006, John injured two pedestrians Tanmay Majhi and Shyam Kasbe, while riding his motorcycle in Mumbai's Khar Danda area. The Khar police booked John under sections 279 and 337 of the IPC for rash and negligent driving. John Abraham had rushed the victims to the hospital and has attended all his court hearings.
