Manyot Deng Monydit being interviewed at the Rumbek Central main prison hospital bed where he received treatment [©Gurtong]Loud gunshots were heard in Rumbek State hospital on Sunday involving the In-laws of a legislature in the national parliament, his armed son and the Lakes State military police who fired bullets to quell alleged family wrangles, leaving four people injured.

The four were admitted in separate hospitals – two people from Hon. Daniel Deng Monydit (Who is representing Rumbek North County of Lakes State at the South Sudan National Assembly) in-laws’ side are admitted in Rumbek State hospital and his two sons are admitted in Rumbek Correctional prison services hospital.

However, Manyot Deng Monydit one of his sons dismissed wounding their relatives but only wanted to scare them in self defence.

They accused the in-laws of attacking them with sticks hence prompting them to protect their father’s life. He also reported that the guards used AK47 gun models to scare them while he was using his pistol.

Manyot works as Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) officer serving in SPLA general headquarters in Juba. He explained that he accompanied his father to Rumbek as his bodyguard and also as a driver.

However, Manyot’s statement to the police was conflicting first by accepting having shot two bullets in air and later he denied having shot any person and claimed that he was carrying a stick.

Manyot admitted to have fired two bullets from his pistol in air but dint shot anyone, “I don’t know who shot me, I dint shot anybody because I was just carrying a stick, I have no idea who took the gun but I know that the police officers were carrying guns.”

The Commissioner of Rumbek Central County Mr. Matur Majok Magol intervened with the Lakes State military police to contain the fight.

According Pietok Bol Tokmac one of the injured In-laws, he has been seeking for help from the State government, the police and judiciary for almost 3 days now for a warrant of Arrest on Mr. Manyot Deng who he accused to have tried to shoot him last Friday in his home but he narrowly escaped.

Tokmac explained that, “on that fateful day, my teeth were aching and my sister was having a fight with her husband but I dint know their problem. I met my in-law Hon. Daniel Deng Monydit carrying a stick trying to attack me but I refused to fight him – my neighbour tried to intervene but he ordered his armed son to shoot me.”

“Mr. Deng Monydit is a legislature in the national parliament. I’m asking the government to do their best to arrest him otherwise everyone will misuse their immunity,” Tokmac said.

Commissioner Matur has so far confirmed that the sons of Hon. Deng Monydit are responsible for the attacks which left four people with injuries.

Mr. Deng could not be reached for immediate comments on the allegations labelled against him.
