The first ever Normal (Technical) school to be established within Singapore in the next year will not only offer GCE certifications but will also allow students a skill certificate by Institute of Technical Education (ITE) as announced by the Ministry of Education on Wednesday.

The Crest Secondary School was announced to be constructed by the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsein Loong during his address at the National Day Rally in 2010. The $32 million purpose built campus for the Crest Secondary School will offer students a diversified set of skills and educational opportunities where 200 Secondary 1 students will be enrolled initially. With the passage of time, the management of the school aims to further diversify into admitting students who want to transfer their credits from other prestigious institutes. The first of the two schools to be inaugurated and opened for admissions in the beginning of the coming year is located on the Jurong Street while the second one is under construction in Woodlands and is expected to start operations in 2014.

The admission into the school will not solely depend on the academic performance and the result of the entry test but also on teacher’s recommendation and the ability of an applicant to benefit from the skill-based curriculum offered by the school.
