The Windsor Police Service is continuing to investigate after a witness located the body of a deceased person floating in the Detroit River yesterday morning. At 10:55 a.m. on Tuesday April 12, 2011, WPS uniformed officers attended the bank of the Detroit River across from 1225 Riverside Dr. W. for a report of a body floating in the water.

Upon arrival, officers were directed to a location by a witness who had initially observed the body. Upon initial observation of the body, it appeared to be that of a male. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition and was face down in the water. The body was removed from the water with the assistance of the Canadian Coast Guard. Upon closer inspection of the body, it was determined to be that of a female.

The body was transported to London, Ont. for the purpose of conducting an autopsy and identification. Windsor Police are investigating the possibility that the body is that of a woman who was reported missing from Hotel Dieu Hospital on December 23, 2010 and was last seen walking on Riverside Dr. at Goyeau St.
