As widely predicted, Toronto-Danforth has finally chosen NDP Craig Scott as their new member of Parliament.

“A good friend of ours would say we’ve chosen love, we’ve chosen hope and we’ve chosen optimism,” Scott said referring to the last letter to voters from late Jack Layton. “The people of Toronto-Danforth have put their trust in one of the strongest opposition parties in Canadian history.”

Scott won 59.4% support against his competitors including Grant Gordon and Andrew Keyes. Scott received 19,210 votes in total. He lives in Riverdale and has vast expertise in climate change issues, international human rights, justice, arts and culture and gay rights.

Liberal’s Grant Gordon in second with 28.5%. He is an author and former talk show host. He advertises himself as the local guy.

After the results were announced, Gordon said: “We did not win the riding today, but we can all be proud of the fact that we’ve narrowed a gap many said was insurmountable. Toronto-Danforth is my home and I will continue to strive to make it better.

“And in three years, in the next general election, Liberals will be ready to fight for Toronto-Danforth — and for Canada — all over again.”

Nevertheless, Monday’s election does not change the bigger picture of parliament. The NDP still maintains 101 seats.
