Members working out of the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigation Bureau have charged a 24-year-old Markham man following a stabbing at a nightclub in the Town of Richmond Hill.

On Friday, July 23, 2010, at approximately 1 a.m., a disturbance erupted at Nava Restaurant and Bar located at 125 York Boulevard in the Town of Richmond Hill. During the altercation, a 20-year-old male victim from the City of Toronto was stabbed by a male suspect in his 20’s. The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by a member of the restaurant’s security personnel.

Uniform patrol officers arrived on scene and continued the arrest of Gnanarathan YOGANATHAN, 24, of Markham who is alleged to have stabbed the victim.

The victim was transported to hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. 

CHARGED:
• Gnanarathan YOGANATHAN, 24, of Markham

CHARGES:

• Aggravated Assault
• Assault with a Weapon
• Weapons Dangerous

Mr. YOGANATHAN has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket sometime today.
