During the night of October 6, 2010, members of the RCMP Lacolle Integrated Border Enforcement Team, in partnership with the Régie intermunicipale de police Roussillon, arrested Steven Maigar, a 30-year-old resident of Candiac. Maigar was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by U.S. authorities for exportation of cannabis to the United States.

As part of an investigation initiated in October 2008 in partnership with U.S. law enforcement authorities, the RCMP looked into allegations of drug trafficking involving Mr. Maigar, who was known to the police for his participation in criminal organization activities. At the time of his arrest, the police seized approximately 100 pills of designer drugs and nearly $3,000.00 in cash.

Steven Maigar appeared in court in Longueuil to face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is scheduled to appear at the Montréal Court House on October 12 in relation to the warrant of extradition against him.
