Toronto Police have canvassed an apartment building in Rexdale, in order to search for clues related to a triple homicide that recently claimed life of a 31-year-old beloved supply teacher at Lawrence Heights Middle School, Abshir Hassan, and injured two others. The injured included a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman who were quickly rushed to the trauma centre with gunshot wounds, and still remain in the hospital according to the police.
The shooting took place outside a low-rise apartment complex at 11 Flemington Rd., near Lawrence Avenue West and Allen Road, shortly after midnight on July 8. Investigators have found that all three victims were attending a birthday party at the time and were standing outside the Lawrence Heights apartment building when shots rang out. Det. Sgt. Steve Ryan mentioned in a press conference on Saturday afternoon that police are searching for two black male suspects seen fleeing the scene in a silver or gray vehicle, believed to be a Lexus or BMW.
Det. Ryan urged the public to come forward with any helpful news, saying that “we’re still looking to witnesses” because “this is a crime that we, as a community, should be outraged by and we all need to step up and enforce the message that this won’t be tolerated in our neighbourhoods.” In addition that, Ryan confessed that “we have no motive” and “there’s such a disconnect between the victims and the shooters and that’s why we’re reaching out to the community for help.”
