A Cornwall native, who now lives in Orillia, claimed the $50-million Lotto Max jackpot on Monday, recalling to have bought it during a trip to a convenience store to pick up ice-cream. In her remarks, Deanna Bergeron remembered eating the last ice-cream bar of her fiancé, Jeff Bourret, and heading to the local Mac’s on Sept. 5 to replace it, when she also bought a couple of Quick Pick tickets.

30-year-old personal trainer, Bergeron, mentioned while at Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s Toronto headquarters that “it just turned out to be the winner.” Whereas 32-year-old Bourret laughed that he’s “forgiven” Bergeron for scooping up his treat that day. He alleged that “she can have all the ice cream she wants now,” while confessing that the couple are still in shock. He stated that “you can’t put it into words; you can’t comprehend something like this.” Bergeron and Bourret plan to wed in two years and just want to “take a vacation and just spend time with our families” in the immediate future.

Bourret, a federal government employee, hadn’t yet shared the big news with his bosses prior to Monday’s announcement and alleged that “I think I could retire” now. Bourret shared to have got “great advice” from family and alleged that “now we are turning to a team of financial advisers who will help guide us through this incredible good fortune so that we can enjoy it for years and decades to come.” Since its launch in September 2009, Ontario Lotto Max players have won more than $2 billion in prizes.
