Winnipeg police has publicly revealed to have identified the 16-year-old girl found beaten and sexually assaulted near the Midtown Bridge over the weekend as Rinelle Harper. Police unveiled more details regarding the case on Monday, hoping that anyone who saw her before the attack will come forward and be a source of help in solving the case.

According to the police, Ms. Harper belongs to God’s Lake Narrows and currently lives in Winnipeg with family. She was allegedly going to school in the city when a passerby found her beaten so badly that the Homicide Unit was initially called in, along the river walk of the Assiniboine River near the Midtown Bridge around 7 a.m. Saturday. Thereafter, Harper was rushed to hospital in critical condition. So far, the investigators shared till Monday that Ms. Harper was thrown into the frigid waters of the Assiniboine River. However, she has improved since and is now in stable condition as homicide detectives continue to investigate the case, although police believe she will recover from her injuries.

Earlier, police had claimed that Harper was last seen walking toward the river walk from behind an apartment block at 340 Assiniboine, but couldn’t say what time that had been. It added more to the timeline on Monday and revealed that police is now aware that she was out with friends in the South Broadway area of the city on Friday night, and that the attack occurred along the river walk near the Midtown Bridge.
