Doug Ford has recently revealed that his brother and outgoing Toronto mayor, Rob Ford, is expected to undergo radiation and surgery after a fifth round of chemotherapy. He said that “hopefully, that tumour’s going to break down eventually,” adding that “it’s stopped spreading but it hasn’t broken down as of yet.”

Doug’s youngest brother, Rob, was diagnosed with a rare type of cancerous tumour in his abdomen amid his mayoral rerun campaign and he has been undergoing multiple bouts of chemotherapy since. The illness prompted Rob to withdraw from the mayoral race, which led Doug to take his place and finish second to winner John Tory. Meanwhile, Rob ran for and won Doug’s council seat in Etobicoke North, Ward 2. In his remarks, Doug explained to have had spoken to Rob’s doctor earlier in the week and heard that a fifth round of chemotherapy would be necessary. He said that “I have total confidence in Mount Sinai.” Additionally, Doug stated that Fords will continue selling bobbleheads to raise money for Mount Sinai and Humber River hospitals.

Regardless of Rob’s health challenge, Doug stressed that his brother was very supportive of a possible leadership bid for the Ontario PCs. He said “honestly, Rob wasn’t happy I wasn’t running.” Thereafter, Doug thanked the media gathered at his leadership announcement Thursday for being “very respectful” of him and his brother during the mayoral campaign. He said “we had a good ride with the press.”
