The honorable judge presiding Luka Rocco Magnotta’s first-degree murder trial, Quebec Superior Court Justice Guy Cournoyer, has adamantly stated to be “flabbergasted” and “not amused” by a fake Twitter account bearing his name. Justice Cournoyer conveyed these remarks during court hours on Saturday, when the account allegedly began getting followed by numerous reporters covering the trial. Caught off guard, the judge said he was “speechless.”

Judge Cournoyer stated that “one can imagine if, I don’t know, untruthful, bizarre things could be attributed to me, I don’t know,” stressing that “I’m not amused.” According to Cournoyer, he began receiving notifications around lunch that people were starting to follow a Twitter account existing under his personal email. The judge revealed to have considered whether to disclose receiving the notifications and decided to go ahead. The Twitter was created in October 2012 and had no published tweets but followed only two people, i.e. both law professors in the United States. Cournoyer stated that “It’s very disconcerting because if anything is said during the day or the coming days attributed to me, it is not the case,” adding that “I have no such account and I want that to be clear. I’m flabbergasted.” The announcement led to disappearance of majority of the new journalists followers.

Meanwhile, the eight women and four men deciding Magnotta’s fate ended their fifth day of deliberations without reaching verdicts on the five charges against the accused. The suspect is facing first-degree murder and four other offences in the slaying and dismemberment of Chinese engineering student Jun Lin in May 2012.
