David Cameron greeting the MonarchQueen Elizabeth II has announced to attend the Cabinet meeting for the very first time as an observer since Queen Victoria’s reign, on Tuesday.

The cabinet meeting that takes place every week, will present her with a gift to celebrate Monarch’s Diamond Jubilee year.

She is expected to sit at the middle of the table beside the Prime Minister, David Cameron and Foreign Secretary William Hague for the regular senior ministers’ meeting.

Buckingham Palace has told Queen’s presence in the meeting will comprise of at least half hour, while the meeting will last for one and a half hour.

Queen as head of state, has her involvement in politics in a formal way. Queen also owns the authority to appoint the prime minister. Monarch has had 12 British premiers during her 60-year span – the first being Winston Churchill. However, she has never attended a Cabinet meeting, where current big issues are discussed by the secretaries of state.
