In a claim that defies belief, a French farmer has admitted to feeding cannabis to his ducks as a means of deworming them. Police have arrested Michel Royer who lives in the village of Gripperie-Saint-Symphorien on France’s Atlantic coast. Apparently the police visited the home after a theft but during their visit discovered 12 cannabis plants and about 5 kg (11 lb) of the drug.

"There’s no better worming substance for them, a specialist advised me to do it," the farmer, Michel Rouyer, said, without being able to identify the specialist in question.

In an effort to convince the court, Rouyer’s lawyer, Jean Piot said, "This is for real, not one (duck) has worms and they’re all in excellent health."

"It’s the first time we’ve heard of something like this," police said.

Rouyer acknowledged he had smoked some of the pot himself, but had given most of it to his 150 ducks for medicinal purposes. The court gave him a one-month suspended sentence and fined him 500 Euros (680 dollars).
