Speaking on behalf of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain promised to extend full support in cleaning Karachi from all sorts of illegal arms and ammunitions. Acknowledging the constructive initiative taken by the police and the Rangers, Altaf asked his party workers and supporters to assist the forces in making Karachi free of illegal weapons.

Altaf further claimed that the MQM has always been against all forms of terrorism and it would go to any extent to establish durable peace and protect the lives and properties of the people in Karachi. He also advised MQM workers to hand over illegal weapons, if any, to the police stations concerned.

Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar said that certain groups are conspiring to stop MQM from participating in the political activities. He was addressing a press conference at Nine Zero on Wednesday.

Sattar condemned the killings of Shia-Sunni scholars, doctors, teachers and other important personalities. He particularly grieved about the unfortunate deaths of Director of Orangi Pilot Project Perveen Rehman, college Principal Prof Sibt-e-Jafar and a doctor of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Referring to Abbas Town bombing attack, which cause the loss of over 50 innocent lives, Sattar said it is evident that such terrorist activities are part of a mega plan to create differences between the people of Karachi.

He also appealed to President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, and Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftakhar Chaudhry to take notice of the never-ending terrorism, including the brutal murders of MQM workers and supporters.
