Argos De Ronald Flemons earns CFL player of the week award

The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate DE Ronald Flemons on being named CFL Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. Flemons is also the first Argonaut to earn Defensive Player of the Week honours since 2008.

Commented Flemons, ““I am humbled by and grateful for this honour but this team is not about personal accolades. Respectfully, I would trade in my Player of the Week and my sacks for a victory. I will continue to work hard week after week with my defensive teammates to keep improving and to bring wins to the city of Toronto – that is our primary goal.”

Flemons accounted for a single-game career-high three (3) of the Argos’ eight quarterback sacks on Casey Printers. The eight team sacks were the second-most in a single game in club history and the most for an Argos team since 1995. He also tied a personal career-high with seven defensive tackles, knocked down a pass and recovered a Casey Printers fumble caused by teammate Jason Pottinger.

The Argonauts would also like to congratulate Ron’s teammates WR/KR Chad Owens and RB/SB Andre Durie for being recognized as runners-up for CFL Special Teams Player of Week and CFL Canadian Player of the Week respectively. Owens finished the game against B.C. with 6 punt returns for 66 yards, 5 kickoff returns for 112 yards and 1 missed field goal return for 82 yards. Durie caught 5 passes for a career-best 95 yards, including a single-play career-best 57 yard catch in the first quarter.

Toronto fans can be part of all the excitement live this Sunday, September 19 as Ronald Flemons, Chad Owens, Andre Durie and their teammates take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Rogers Centre, kickoff at 1:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item in support of Purolator Tackle Hunger.
