Day 4 of U.S. Open action had witnessed two wild upsets on the men’s side of the draw. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was upset by Martin Klizan in four sets, and Mardy Fish battled Nikolay Davydenko for five sets before earning a final victory.
As the final rounds are coming closer, upsets become more commonplace, and the action gets more competitive across the board.

The U.S. Open moves into the fifth day and the men’s singles event will continue with its second round of play. World number two Novak Djokovic will take on unseeded Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva, while Andy Roddick – whose retirement has been announced after this tournament – will face Bernard Tomic of Australia. Fourth seeded David Ferrer takes on unseeded Dutchman Igor Sijsling and hoping to fill the void left behind by the absence of fellow citizen and world number three Rafael Nadal, due to a foot injury. Meanwhile, seventh seed and 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, will face Ryan Harrison of USA.
The women’s singles event will move into the third round with first up, is third seed Maria Sharapova, who takes on unseeded American Mallory Burdette. Another player to watch is world number one Victoria Azarenka to take on 28th seed Jie Zheng of China.
