The RCMP in Sarnia is increasing their presence and patrols in the Sarnia area commencing in May. The Sarnia RCMP is responsible for Border Integrity along the international border between Lake St. Clair and the southern half of Lake Huron. The Integrated Border Enforcement Team Program (IBET) is a multi-faceted enforcement initiative that is comprised of both Canadian and American law enforcement agencies. The bi-national partnership enables the core law enforcement partners to more effectively share information and work together daily.

IBET’s are intelligence led, field level groups of law enforcement officials dedicated to securing the integrity of the shared border between Canada and the United States, while respecting the laws and jurisdiction of each nation.

IBET’s are multi disciplinary units that do not concentrate on any specific commodity, but focus on national security, organized crime and other activities between the ports of entry.

IBET’s also work with municipal, provincial, federal, First Nations and state law enforcement agencies, stakeholder agencies and related government departments. “The general public will see an increased presence of uniform RCMP members conducting patrols along the border on both land and water” stated Inspector Dwight Blok, Officer in Charge of RCMP London/Sarnia Regional Detachment.

“These patrols will be run in conjunction with our policing partners including the U.S. Border Patrol and the Walpole Island Police Service.”

Anyone with information regarding any type of suspicious activity along the border is invited to contact the Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, the RCMP at 1-800-387-0020 or the RCMP Sarnia Detachment at (519)-337-7543
