Over 100 artists showcased at the 30th Anniversary of the Mississauga Arts Council

On Friday, August 24th, the Mississauga Arts Council will celebrate it's 30th anniversary with a special free event at Mississauga's Celebration Square.

"The audience will get to see everything the arts has to offer. We're spanning all disciplines.  Everything from music to dance to poetry to film to visual arts.  And we're tapping into the cultural landscape of the city by having rising stars from the Canadian urban art scene, traditional Chinese virtuosos, Indian artists and Latin artists.  One place.  One show.  All fun," says producer Vikas Kohli of FatLabs who is curating the show.

The show begins at 5pm with free public film screenings on the large HD screens in the open air venue, visual arts exhibitions, and a fine arts and crafters marketplace. At 7pm the main stage performances begin with music, dance, and spoken word.  In addition to the film screening and stage show, the audience will witness visual artists creating work in the square as well as have the chance to join in and create their own sidewalk visual art pieces.

Hosted by CityNews' Francis D'Souza, this is an all-ages event that will incorporate multidisciplinary, multicultural and collaborative stage presentations from some of the most talented artists in the city.  Some of the artists include:

Special music & dance performance by Sheldon's Universe
Urban/indie rock band Vibonics collaborating with poet Zohra Zoberi
Kaleidoscope Chinese Performing Arts musicians collaborating with modern dancer Colleen Snell
Latin band Carla Casanova and Friends collaborating with dancer Natalia Bonafin
The Marie Ann Longlade School of Dance and the Toronto All Star Big Band
Visual artists Claudio Ghirardo and Jane Motyka with a live performance collaborative work of art using Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd products
Filmmakers such as Peter Rowe, Marco Veltri, Matt Campagna and digital media artists such as Michelina Williams as well as music videos from all genres of music
All in all, over 100 participating artists from all disciplines in one show

"Having so many wonderful and talented artists come together is a true depiction of how far the Mississauga Arts Council has come over the past 30 years. And I've been able to witness the growth of the artistic community in the past decade. We're really excited to showcase just a small portion of the talent that's here in Mississauga for you at this celebration!" exclaims the Executive Director of the Mississauga Arts Council, Linda Thomas.
