Classically-trained vocalist Mamak Khadem, an Iranian émigré to Southern California, keeps her country’s ancient culture alive by combining beautiful Persian poetry with equally striking folk and traditional melodies. Khadem may be best known for her role as the lead singer of the world-music fusion group Axiom of Choice, and she’s performed at impressive festivals and venues like the Greek Theater and Smithsonian Museum. India’s most genre bending and adventurous dance theatre collective, Navarasa’s ground-breaking productions are both multilingual and multilayered. They weave together traditional Indian dance, music, narrative theater and even a form of martial arts known as kalari ppayattu.
