Recent Spanish Cinema is an annual showcase of the best of Spain’s rich, vibrant and vital films — seen first on the big screen at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. This year’s closing night double feature includes Magical Girl and Nothing in Return with an introduction by writer-director Daniel Guzman and a discussion following the screening. Magical Girl centers on a father’s efforts to fulfill a dying wish for his terminally ill daughter — to give her a dress from her favorite anime series — while the likable coming-of-age drama Nothing in Return was named Best Film at the Málaga Film Festival. See both as they make their U.S. premieres with the filmmakers in attendance.
