This Monday, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif informed the world about the military operation being carried out in North Waziristan. He delivered a speech which was to justify the governments and the army’s decision to carry out a full scale operation in the tribal region.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the mission called Zarb-e-Azb would continue until terrorism is completely eliminated from the country and until the death of every terrorist in Pakistan. Sharif explained that the government had tried their best at the peace talks but after four and a half months of effort which went in vain, the government was left with no solution but to carry out the operation. “On one hand we were pursuing dialogue, and on the other we were being targeted. We were pursuing talks, but from Islamabad courts to Karachi airport we were attacked,” said Sharif. While addressing the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Sharif further added, “Our places of worship and mosques were targeted, our schools were targeted. We will change the fate of this country and under no circumstances will the country be allowed to serve as a safe haven for terrorists.”
“Despite the sacrifices of our soldiers, we gave peace talks first priority but our efforts were rendered in vain, This operation will be the start of a peaceful beginning of the country,” he added. The decision to carry out the operation is accepted by most of the political parties which includes Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
