The Pakistan armed forces this Tuesday carried out renewed airstrikes in tribal North Waziristan agency killing at least 17 militants. The Inter-Services Public Relations further informed that the airstrikes early this morning were also helpful in killing foreign militants. The armed forces of Pakistan have been carrying out operation Zarb-e-Azab against the terrorists in North Waziristan, a tribal region near the Afghan border. The operation has been taking place in the region since June.
According to the Pakistan Army, over 1,200 militants have so far been killed in the military offensive. The area has been closed to journalists due to safety purposes thus there is no way to confirm the news. “In early morning precise aerial strikes in North Waziristan Agency today 17 terrorists were killed including some foreigners,” a senior security official told AFP whereas an intelligence official informed that “There are five Uzbek and two Haqqani network militants among those who have been killed in air strikes.”
Zee News further informed that seven more militants were killed in ground firing making the total rise to 24 militants killed this Tuesday. “Seven terrorists were killed in exchange of fire with security forces in Tirah in Khyber Agency. Reportedly about 50-60 terrorists raided a check post in Tirah,” a second security official told AFP.
