Madhur gets emotional on hearing real life tales at Kolkata

Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart… National award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar is known for his realistic hard hitting films from the days of Chandni Bar to the very recent Heroine. However, this time it was his turn to get a little emotional in a recently held interaction with the members of Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organization (FICCI-FLO) in Kolkata where he ended up getting nostalgic on hearing life stories of many real world women.

FICCI-FLO has previously had honourable speakers like Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Shri Laloo Prasad Yadav, Ms. Anuradha Koirala (CNN Woman of the Year), Mr. Anupam Kher and Mr. Manish Malhotra. But this time with the topic of discussion being 'Learning – A lifelong Journey' the idea was to have Madhur share his own past as well as other experiences that could facilitate the lessons of constant learning which could turn out to be a game changer for an individual.

To a full house of women from different walks of life, Madhur spoke about his various films like Corporate, Satta, Page 3, Fashion and even Heroine which raised a roar of excitement amongst the audiences. Following an elaborate round of questions that Madhur graciously answered, the event ended on an emotional note as he was touched to hear the stories shared by women on their struggle in the beginning, only to adapt constant learning in their lives, keeping their chin up and emerging triumphant.

"It has all been possible due to their sheer will power," says Madhur, "Indian women are anyways considered the strongest lot but as you dig deeper, you realize that there is a world out there where there are stories waiting to be told. FICCI-FLO has been an eye opener. They have been doing some amazing work. More than just me sharing my learning and a lifelong journey, I have come back enriched with so much learning from them."

Even as he bid the city an emotional farewell, Madhur couldn't stop wondering about the kind of opportunities so many women in different parts of the country had managed to create for themselves.
