As it happened though, she got the taste of all kinds in these couple of years. There was a flop in the form of Chandni Chowk To China, a semi-hit in Bachna Ae Haseeno and a super hit in Love Aaj Kal. All in all, a fairly encouraging box office outing for a girl who had just started off in the industry. Though Bachna Ae Haseeno was still known more for Ranbir Kapoor, it was the second success in a row that mattered for Deepika. On the other hand it was Akshay Kumar who had to suffer all the flak for Chandni Chown To China. As for Love Aaj Kal then well, a hit film benefits all and so was the case with her, Saif and Imtiaz.

Exposure was a no-no though

While good attention was coming her way for being a quintessential leading lady who could act as well as dance, one thing that separated Deepika from others of her ilk was her 'I won't expose' stance. Whether it was Priyanka Chopra (Andaaz), Katrina Kaif (Boom) or Kangana Ranaut (Gangster), each of them had indulged into skin show to a fair degree in their very first big screen outing. However Deepika managed to stay away from wearing anything that would have made her feel uncomfortable. Okay, so she wasn't a plain Jane either but dare-bare was definitely not the game-plan for her.

Deepika's funda was clear, she had to be accepted more for her 'I can fit into a commercial leading lady' mould than the magazine covers she could have gained due to her skin show. That's a stance she has maintained right through the years gone by and though there may have been an occasional bikini shot (that made its presence felt for merely a few seconds) in Housefull or a bohemian dress-up in Break Ke Baad (which was aesthetically done), Deepika has safeguarded her from being accused of resorting to skin show in order to enhance her Bollywood career.

The only time that she did that was in the title song of Dum Maaro Dum and one can be assured that Deepika isn't the one who would be running after the 'item girl' tag soon. She had done that earlier in Billu and while her song 'Love Mera Hit Hit' indeed turned out to be a hit, she hasn't fallen prey to the temptation of making guest appearances, except for a stray Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna when it came to saying 'yes' to a certain Salman Khan.

Of course audiences weren't too pleased when she arrived fully clothed on screen in films like Aarakshan, Lafangey Parindey or Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. However that could well be an aberration and one does expect Deepika to up the glamour quotient while retaining her stance in years to come.

It was time to announce 'I have arrived'

With industry agreeing to Deepika's terms and conditions and the young woman too making most of the situation, it was time for the most hectic year ever of her short career so far. The year was 2010 when she had as many as five of her films releasing one after another. She couldn't be blamed much for that either. After all when there are makers like Yash Raj Films, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ashutosh Gowariker, Kunal Kohli and Farhan Akhtar lining up a film each for you, the temptation is hard to resist. Especially so when the co-stars are as diverse as Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhishek Bachchan and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Unfortunately for her though, the results weren't heartening enough!
