USA: Free $30 Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…It all started early December when Shenaz Treasury wrote an open letter to Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Anil Ambani. Titled 'It's Not Our Shame, It's Theirs', she came up with a heartfelt account of living as a female in the country. Even as the letter went viral with millions of views and hundreds of thousands of comments coming in, there were also countless accusations of this being a publicity stunt for her film Main Aur Mr. Riight.

As has turned out, Shenaz has taken the cause much further than the release (and quick disappearance) of the film. She has just launched an online blog where she is inviting letters, stories, pictures and suggestions on the topic.

Says Shenaz, "At 12:30 AM on the night of December 10, after watching the news, I marched to computer and typed out an angry letter and posted it on Facebook. The next day, it went viral. Some say it saw up to 3 million shares. My inbox, email and Facebook page were filled with letters from women and some men too who identified with the subject and had been through the same or worse experiences. They thanked me for speaking up and repeated – 'It's not our shame'. This blog of mine is for them, and many more like them."

In the last 15-20 days, she has personally gone through horrific account of many more such individuals.

"The list is long, the stores horrifying," she says, "Women and some men who had been sexually abused at 6 by their family members or at 17 by their drivers or at 25 by their doctors or at 39 by their husbands is nothing less than shocking. So many people had been keeping quiet about this for so long. This leads to unreported crime, guilt and shame of the victim allowing the offender to go scot-free. So, I decided to start this blog as a platform and a community for women and men to share their experiences, talk about this without shame and make suggestions for change."

In the times when a cause dies its natural death when a film is off the screens, this could well be a change and dispel the myth that not all social awakening can be equated to a publicity stunt.

The blog is titled it's not our shame and is available on Tumblr.
